Message From the Department Head

For further information about our graduate programs or to obtain application materials, write to us at: Physics Department, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX 77843, send an email to apply@physics.tamu.edu, or phone the department at (979) 845-7717 or (866) 409-4693 (toll-free). Also, you may wish to view our online research brochure.

The GRE and GRE physics subject test are required. There is no foreign language requirement. Students are normally supported on a teaching assistantship for their first twelve months, and then on research assistantships once they become involved in research. Students on an assistantship qualify for the much lower in-state tuition rate, and assistantships may be supplemented with fellowships for superior students. For information on current stipend rates, please contact the department or visit our financial aid page.

Texas A&M is located in southeast Texas in the Bryan/College Station area, which has a population of slightly over 100,000. Our small city offers a high quality of life and a very moderate cost of living. The large metropolitan areas of Austin, Houston, Dallas/Ft.Worth, and San Antonio are close by. Texas A&M is a large state supported university and offers very diverse academic programs and student activities.

You are strongly encouraged to talk with us further about our graduate programs. Come and visit us if you can, and make virtual visits by browsing our web pages. If you are interested in a particular subfield, the faculty in that area would be happy to talk with you about their research programs and the opportunities for graduate study in their research groups.

With best regards,

Edward S. Fry
Department Head
